Brush With Fashion: Finale - The Body Shop x PJCAD @ Pavilion

By 10:21 , , , ,

After so much fussing, stress and anxiety, it came down to this.. The Body Shop Malaysia's Brush With Fashion Finale was held at Pavilion Centre Court last Saturday and you just had to be there to feel the incredible vibe! Brush With Fashion where make-up & fashion meets and magic happens. That's just my take on it.. lol. It is a competition jointly organised by The Body Shop Malaysia and PJCAD (INTI) to unleash talent and creativity.

This competion was held in conjuction with The Body Shop's new "Brush With Fashion" range of on-trend, environmentally sustainable and cruelty-free make-up series. 10 finalists each from The Body Shop and PJCAD were paired up to create a total look. PJCAD finalists were required to come up with a ready-to-wear outfit and an avant-garde outfit complemented by make-up from The Body Shop's professional make-up artists. There was one winner each from the make-up category and the fashion design category.

Enough talk, lets continue this Fatin style.. loads and loads of photos will show you what went on and who won! *winks* Just because I was there since 740am for the final rehearsals, I wasn't about to look sleepy & disheveled okie. :P

Mini make over station

The finale kicked off with a mini fashion show featuring pieces from Khoon Hooi, Melinda Looi and Salabianca with Daphne Iking as the MC. The judges are Vinz Sebastian, Allan Chan, Melinda Looi and Khoon Hooi. Judging was based on various criterias ranging from relevance to the theme, creativity, among others.

MC - Daphne Iking

Judges L-R : Vinz Sebastian - The Body Shop's Make-up Training & Developemnt Manager, Allan Chan - Co-founder of Salabianca, Melinda Looi, Khoon Hooi

Left : Datin Mina Cheah-Foong - MD of Rampai Niaga Sdn Bhd
Right : Graham Doxey - CEO of Laureate Malaysia

The students then showcased their ready-to-wear outfits with an environmentally conscious theme. The models came out wearing masks as the make-up bit will only be done during the make-up competition section. I thought the mask added a hint of mystery and coolness to it.

It was The Body Shop's make-up artists turn to show off their skill. They only had 20 minutes to recreate the look that they have been practising for all these weeks. The models' faces had been prepped much earlier. For some of the finalists it was their first time entering this competition but as for the others, they were seasoned pros.

20 minutes really isn't very long. I don't know how they did it, but I didn't have enough time to run around to capture each brush stroke. Okie, that's pushing it a bit much but wished I could just float around to get more shots. *sigh* Next I  heard.. "You have 1 minute left" and then the countdown began. That was it. Each look was as amazing as the next. What they came up with was really awe-inspiring. The technique, skill and passion really showed! Pretty sure Vinz had a tough time judging.

After an entertaining show by Teenage Dreams, it was what everyone was waiting for.. the gorgeous make-up with the avant garde designs. Seriously, there was so much creativity and talent strutting down that runway that day each with a distinct theme and flair.

Time to tabulate the scores! Can't imagine how the finalists must feel after all the time, effort and heart they have put into the competition. While waiting I was ambushed by Daphne who had just finish asking the judges on their thoughts so far. She handed me a microphone and asked what I thought of the whole competition in front of too many people. Good thing I spoke a lot slower than I usually do.. lol!!
